Our Naturopathic services.

What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic Medicine is the use of food, nutrients, herbs, lifestyle changes, and other natural approaches to support healing and wholeness in the body.  A naturopathic doctor is trained to review your full health history in order to determine the root cause of your health concerns.  NDs treat the whole person, not just individual symptoms, so expect to spend some time filling out the intake forms beforehand and know that there is plenty of time during your visits to talk about any and all of your concerns.

During a visit you can expect a thorough intake with lots of questions about you and your health history.  There may be some physical examination as well, depending on your concerns.  This would be things such as checking blood pressure or looking inside your ears, and they are only done with your full consent.

Once the intake portion is complete, you will receive a treatment plan with suggestions to implement and experiment with at home.  This can include supplements, diet changes, lifestyle suggestions, and further resources to explore.  Your input is welcome here – if something doesn’t feel like a good fit for you, tell us, and we will modify accordingly.  The goal is to meet you where you are at and send you home with a plan you feel excited about.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is performed at New Earth Therapy by Dr. Michelle Marcoux, ND, as part of her naturopathic medicine license.

Please note that Dr. Marcoux is NOT a licensed acupuncturist, but rather a naturopathic doctor who also does acupuncture.  Please check with your insurance provider before booking to be sure that your acupuncture coverage includes naturopathic doctors.  Otherwise, your acupuncture appointment will likely need to be claimed under naturopathic services rather than acupuncture.

Acupuncture is the insertion of thin, stainless steel needles through the skin into underlying tissues at specific points on the body's surface.  The needles are sterile and disposed of after each use.  Some needles may be coated in an inert lubricant such as silicone to aid in ease of insertion.

Acupuncture helps to stimulate circulation, lymph flow, muscle relaxation, nutrient exchange, and waste removal in cells.  It also helps to shift your nervous system into a parasympathetic state, also known as ‘rest and digest’ mode.  This helps create a feeling of relaxation and safety in your body.

Bowen therapy

Bowen Therapy is a gentle, hands-on treatment for muscle and body pain, chronic pain syndromes, or injuries.  Bowen Therapy is performed at New Earth Therapy by Dr. Michelle Marcoux, ND, who received her training from Dr. Manon Bolliger, ND, at Bowen College in Vancouver, BC.

Bowen therapy is a series of rolling motions done on the skin over nerve and muscle bundles in order to release tension in the muscles, fascia, and nervous system.  Bowen therapy is gentle and non-invasive and has no known contraindications.

Some of the potential benefits include release of chronic tension patterns held in muscles or fascia, relief of pain or tension, increased blood and lymph flow, relaxation, improved sleep, improved mobility and function of muscles.

what does it help with?

The short answer is: everything!  This is because we are treating you, the person, and not your symptoms.  Our goal is to bring your body back into balance and optimal health so that whatever symptoms you have can be resolved.  This can take time, but it is possible once we understand what your body is trying to tell us it needs.
