Meet Alana!
Alana is a registered social worker with years of experience in trauma healing. Alana provides therapy services to couples, individual adults and individual youth aged 14 and up.
Alana’s passion for trauma work began with her role in Intimate Partner Violence Outreach and Counselling which included supporting and advocating for survivors of intimate partner abuse, and providing educating about intimate partner violence to the community in and around Saskatoon. Alana stayed in this role for 6 years, offering individual and group therapy, sitting on the advisory committee for PATHS (Provincial Association of Transition Homes and Shelters), and heading the Reconciliation Committee in her workplace, working to provide culturally sensitive trauma support.
Alana’s most current work includes Children’s Mental Health Services, which provided an opportunity to adapt her trauma education to children and pre-teens, as well as supporting children and their families in ADHD/learning difficulties, anxiety, communication and attachment support. Her background in trauma work led Alana to fuse traditional talk therapy approaches (CBT, Narrative) with creative interventions and somatic tools (painting, mindfulness, interoceptive awareness, breathing) in helping children work through their challenges.
Alana also trained in ART Level 1 (Accelerated Resolution Therapy), which she was drawn to after personal experience with eye-movement and somatic therapy for healing trauma. The importance of integrating somatic work, spiritual wellness, and mental health is central to Alana’s practice, and when she crossed paths with New Earth Therapy and psychedelic therapy work, joining a practice of holistic practitioners was a no-brainer!
Alana is a feminist at her core, and is energized by advocacy and community building, having been involved with the former Saskatoon Women’s Community Coalition to bring awareness to issues of gender-based violence in our community, and organize community events such as the Annual Take Back the Night March. Alana identifies as queer, and is an ally to all 2SLGBTQ+ folx, committed to providing safe and supportive space and mental health care within her practice.
When not in the office or doing advocacy work, Alana is a busy Mom of four human children, two cats, and two ferrets, and enjoys cooking, reading, lazy Sundays, and board game nights with her family and friends. Alana’s favourite self-care involves a good book or some art supplies, a sandy beach and a body of water.
